Archives – Bob Stewart
Bob Stewart's connection with the BC Conference Archives began in the early 1970s when he was a Master of Divinity student at the Vancouver School of Theology. His career took off in 1981 when he formally became the Conference Archivist. Under his guidance, the Archives was established as a repository with a rich collection of records. It also became a training ground for many of UBC's archival studies students, who benefited from their mentor's knowledge and ministry. Bob's sense of humour, his warmth, his intelligence, and his devotion to the church will long be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Bob died on November 15, 2005. To honour him, the BC Conference Archives and Historical Committee renamed the Archives "The Bob Stewart Archives". Much of the credit for the building of a new archives facility at VST goes to Bob for his vision and generous bequest.
Here is the famous archives video he produced in 1990.
The Plaque above was donated to the Archives by the Vancouver School of Theology, in memory of Bob. VST sold the building to UBC in 2014, and the three archives are now housed in separate facilities.
